About Dr. Shamani
A physician who listens beyond your words.
Board-certified family medicine in San Diego since 2012 — primary care, women's health, skin, and physician-performed aesthetics. As a primary care doctor San Diego families trust for family medicine College Area residents rely on, Dr. Shamani is also a Farsi speaking doctor San Diego patients seek out for care in their own language.

"I listen beyond the words. That's where the diagnosis usually is."
Dr. Azam Shamani's path to medicine began with a misdiagnosis she witnessed early in life — and the realization that the difference between good care and harm often comes down to whether a doctor takes the time to understand the person in front of them. That conviction has shaped every year of her career since.
She earned her medical degree at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, then completed her Family Medicine residency at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield and a fellowship in cardiology at UCLA. She is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and affiliated with Sharp Grossmont Hospital and Sharp Community Medical Group.
Since 2012 she has run her own practice in San Diego's College Area, where she cares for patients from adolescence through their later years. Her clinical interests span preventive medicine, chronic disease, women's health, dermatology, and medical aesthetics — and she is a USCIS-Designated Civil Surgeon, performing immigration medical exams for families beginning a new chapter in the United States.
Dr. Shamani speaks English and Farsi; her staff also speaks Spanish.
